World stars of curling from Canada and Sweden will play in one pair at Arctic Curling Cup
We introduce curling players who will play in Arctic Curling Cup from 24 to 27 May 2018 in Dudinka.
Only one mixed doubles team will include players from different countries. These curling players are among main favorites of the tournament. Rachel Homan (Canada) will play with Niklas Edin (Sweden).
Rachel Homan (born in 1989) is one of the best skips of world women’s curling. She participated in three World Curling Championships and won three medals: bronze in 2013, silver in 2014 and gold in 2017. Also Rachel won three Scotties Tournaments of Hearts (2013, 2014 and 2017).
Rachel could participate in World Championships more often but in Canada it’s hard to win national championships. Legendary skip Jennifer Jones is a long-time leader of Canadian and world women’s curling. Jones won Olympic gold medal in 2014, but Homan and her team were able to win national qualification for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Homan was 2017 world champion and main favorite at 2018 Olympics. Play of Canada team became one of the main sensations of 2018 Olympic curling tournament. Rachel lost 5 times in 9 matches at group stage and didn’t qualify for the semifinals. It was first time in history of curling at Olympics when Canada women’s team didn’t win any medal.
Homan is still one of the best players in the world, she won 7 titles at Grand Slam tournaments.
Mixed doubles is rather new discipline for Rachel. In 2017 she won silver medal at Canada Mixed Doubles Championship in the team with John Morris, who later in 2018 won Olympic gold in mixed doubles with Kaitlyn Lawes.
Rachel is married to Shawn Germain, former semi-professional hockey player from Canada since 2016.

Niklas Edin (born in 1985) is one of the best skips in world curling during 2010s. He is best skip in Sweden and won multiple titles at World Men’s Championships. He won 6 medals at these tournaments, including 3 gold medals in 2013, 2015 and 2018. He is 6-time European champion. His team is leader of World Curling Tour ranking in 2017/18.
At 2014Winter Olympics in Sochi Swedish team with Edin at skip position was best at group stage (+8 -1), but in semifinals Sweden lost to Great Britain (5-6). Sweden got bronze after defeating China in 3rd place game. At 2018 Winter Olympics in Korea Niklas Edin was the flag bearer of the Swedish team at the opening ceremony. At 2018 Winter Olympics Swedish team also won group stage (+7 -2). In semifinal Edin’s team defeated Swiss team (9-3). In the final against USA the score was 5-5 after 7 ends but in 8th end Sweden lost 0-5 and USA won Olympic gold medal. Edin now has two Olympic medals in men’s tournaments.
As for Rachel Homan mixed doubles is rather new discipline for Edin. In 2017 he won silver medal at Swedish national mixed doubles championship and it’s his main success in mixed doubles.
